Rajasthan is a state of ancient forts and palaces. Amber Fort Jaipur Amber Fort is situated 11 km from Jaipur. It was once the ancient capital of Jaipur State. Raja Man Singh, the Rajput commander of Akbar's army started the construction of the fortress palace was in 1592. The fort was later extended and completed by the Jai Singhs before they move to Jaipur. Located on a hillside and overlooking a lake, which reflects its terraces and ramparts, the fort is an excellent example of Rajput architecture.
Chittorgarh Fort Chittorgarh Chittorgarh fort is on a 280-hectare site on the top of a 180-metre-high hill, which rises abruptly from the surrounding plain. There are many palaces within the fort like Rana Kumbha Palace, Fateh Prakash Palace, Tower of Victory and Padmini's Palace, which are a must see for the tourists. This hilltop fortress of Chittorgarh epitomizes the romantic and doomed ideal of Rajput chivalry.
Junagarh Fort Bikaner The fort is located in Bikaner. It is one of the finest of Rajput monuments. Raja Rai Singh, Akbar's contemporary started building Junagadh Fort in 1587. Often attacked, Junagadh is one of the few forts in India, which was never conquered. It consists of 37 palaces, pavilions and temples built by different Kings stand protected by massive ramparts and round towers.
Mehrangarh Fort Jodhpur Mehrangarh Fort is situated in Jodhpur. Rao Jodha built the fort in 1459 when he shifted his capital from Mandore. The fort is situated about 400-ft above the city and has 68-ft wide and 117-ft high walls, which dominates the surrounding plain. Rao Jodha Singh from 1459 onwards constructed the palaces within the fort area. The various palaces and buildings inside the fort now serve as Mehrangarh museum. The Moti Mahal has stained glass windows that create a colorful mosaic with the play of light and shade. Chandan Mahal, Darbar Takhat or Throne Room, Rang Mahal and Umaid Vilas are must see for tourists. |
